How care works.

Individual sessions. Small groups. Licensed clinicians who know this stage of life, by video, by phone, or in person, wherever you live in New York, New Jersey, and Florida.

Life gets hard. That’s what we’re here for.

A quiet house. A changed body. A loss that hasn’t eased. Days without much shape to them. Or nothing you can name, just not feeling like yourself.

Whatever it is, our clinicians have sat across from it before.

Fog lying on still water at sunrise, with wooded slopes and mountains behind it.

Our clinicians have experience working with

Life transitions
Retirement. Moving. Downsizing. A life that looks different than it used to.
Loss
A spouse. A friend. Your independence. Grief that hasn’t lifted.
The weight of caregiving
Looking after someone you love, with nothing left over for yourself.
Losing your sense of purpose
Days without much shape to them. Missing the feeling of being needed.
Loneliness
Too many quiet hours. Fewer people who call.
Health that’s changed
Living with illness, pain, or a body that won’t do what it used to.

Individual care

One-on-one psychotherapy with a licensed clinician who works with older adults every day. Sessions are private and unhurried. You set the pace. The plan is shaped around you and revisited as you go.

Group care

Small groups of people who are dealing with similar things, led by a licensed clinician. Some groups are built around a topic: life after loss, adjusting to a move, a new diagnosis, feeling like yourself again. Others are simply good conversation with people who understand, guided by someone who knows how to make it go somewhere. The goal is for group care to become more than an appointment: a meaningful, professionally guided part of the week.

This is group psychotherapy. It’s also good company with a purpose.

Behavioral health evaluations

If you’re not sure what’s going on, a thorough evaluation is a good place to begin. A licensed clinician will spend time understanding your history and what’s changed. They’ll want to know what you want to be different, then talk with you plainly about what they see and what could help.

Ongoing care

Care should evolve with you. We regularly look at what’s helping, what you need now, and what comes next. When care ends, the door stays open.

What people ask us first.

Turn a card over for the answer.

Tap a card for the answer.

Who will I be talking to?

A Haven clinician: licensed in New York, and experienced with older adults. Someone who has had this conversation many times, and will take their time with yours.

Do I have to go somewhere?

No. Care happens by phone, including a regular landline, from wherever you are in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. No app, no camera, nothing to download.

What happens at the first visit?

A conversation, not a questionnaire. Your clinician will want to know what’s been happening, what you’re hoping for, and what a good day looks like for you. You’ll leave with a clearer picture and a plan you helped make.

Will anyone know I’m doing this?

Only the people you choose. What you share is confidential, within the limits the law requires. If you’d like a family member involved, we’ll ask you first, every time. In group care, everyone agrees to keep what’s said in the room in the room.

One more question people ask: what does it cost? Medicare and cost

We treat specific conditions.

When there’s a diagnosis, we treat it, with evidence-based care for older adults. Depression. Anxiety. Adjustment disorders.

Grief
When loss doesn’t ease with time.
Loneliness and isolation
And the low mood that comes with it.
Sleep problems
Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking too early.
Trauma
Including things from decades ago that have come back.
Alcohol and medication misuse
Often quiet, often missed.
Mood and behavior changes with memory loss
Care for the person, support for the family.

What we treat, and what we don’t

Haven’s licensed clinicians provide individual and group psychotherapy and behavioral health evaluations for adults 65 and older living with depression, anxiety, grief and bereavement, adjustment difficulties, and related conditions. We are not an emergency or crisis service and do not provide inpatient care. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If someone is in crisis, call or text 988, any hour, any day.

What Haven isn’t

Haven is not an emergency service. If you or someone you love is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you’re in crisis, call or text 988, any hour, any day.

Is this therapy?

Yes. Haven provides psychotherapy and related behavioral health care. We describe it in terms of what it does for your life, connection, purpose, feeling like yourself, because that’s what people are actually looking for.

What happens in a group?

People who are dealing with similar things, meeting regularly with a licensed clinician who guides the conversation. It’s group psychotherapy, designed to become a meaningful part of the week.

Is what I say private?

Yes, within the limits the law requires. If you want a family member involved, you decide that, and we’ll ask you first.

How long does care last?

Care should evolve with you. We regularly look at what’s helping and what you need now. When care ends, the door stays open.

Do I need a diagnosis or a doctor to send me?

No. Many people come to Haven simply because they don’t feel like themselves. If your coverage requires a doctor to send you, we’ll help you sort it out.

Do I need a computer or a smartphone?

No. A regular phone works fine. If you’d rather meet by video, tell us.
